About this event
The lunar new year date of Saturday 6 February 2027 is fixed by the Chinese calendar, and festivities in Yaowarat run across the eve, the main day and the day after, with Yaowarat Road closed to traffic for lion and dragon dances, firecrackers and street food. Chinese New Year is not a Thai public holiday, so Bangkok trades as normal outside Chinatown, while many Thai Chinese businesses close for family observance. Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, the district's main temple, is at its busiest on the main morning.
