About this event
Um Phra Dam Nam is performed in one place only: legend holds that Phetchabun's Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Mahadhamaracha, was found in the Pa Sak River, and each year at the tenth month festival the governor carries the image into the river and dives with it, a rite believed to secure the province's water and abundance. A festival fair runs around the ceremony at Wat Traiphum, the image's home. The rite is fixed to the fifteenth waning day of the tenth lunar month, the same lunar day as Sat Duean Sip, expected on 30 September 2027. The window shown covers the festival days around the rite; the province publishes its programme close to the season, so this record is marked expected.
