About this event
The Ton Si Mahapho at Si Mahosot is Thailand's most venerated bodhi tree, believed grown from a shoot of the Bodh Gaya tree brought to the ancient city of Si Mahosot, and its temple, Wat Si Mahapho, becomes a provincial pilgrimage centre on Makha Bucha, with candlelit circumambulation, sermons and a temple fair drawing devotees from across the east. Makha Bucha falls on Sunday 21 February 2027 in the published holiday calendar. The 2027 temple programme is published close to the day; the date follows the fixed religious pattern, so this record is marked expected rather than official.
