About this event
Every cool season the shallows of Nong Han, a 36 square kilometre freshwater lake south of Udon Thani city, fill with pink red water lilies until the surface reads as a sea of flowers. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Udon Thani guide gives the viewing season as December to February. Boats from Ban Diam pier thread channels between the blooms in the early morning, when the flowers are open; by late morning they begin to close. The 2026-27 window shown follows the Tourism Authority of Thailand's published December to February season. Bloom density varies with water levels and weather, and the province usually opens the season with a small lakeside festival at Wat Ban Diam in December. Go at dawn for the full effect.
