About this event
San Don Ta is the Northern Khmer ancestor rite of Surin, a local counterpart to the tenth month merit festivals: families prepare elaborate offerings of food, fruit and sweets for their ancestors, join processions at the town monument and temples, and mark the day with traditional performance. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's October calendar listed the 2026 ceremony on 7 October 2026 at the Phraya Surin Phakdi monument. The rite follows the waning moon of the tenth lunar month. The 2027 date shown, 29 September 2027, follows that lunar pattern into 2027, the day before the expected main tenth month merit day, and will be corrected when the province publishes its programme.
