About this event
Bun Sat Duean Sip marks the waning moon of the tenth lunar month, when the gates between the living and the dead are believed to open and ancestors return to receive merit. Nakhon Si Thammarat holds the country's largest edition: families carry decorated hamrap trays to Wat Phra Mahathat, set out food for the preta spirits in the tang pret rite, and join the hamrap procession contest, with shadow puppetry, nora dance and a Red Cross fair running alongside at Thung Tha Lat. The 2027 dates are not yet published. The government events calendar listed the 2026 festival and Red Cross fair from 18 September to 12 October 2026, with the main merit day on the fifteenth waning day, 11 October 2026. The window shown follows that lunar pattern shifted to 2027, with the main merit day expected around 30 September 2027, and will be updated when the province publishes its programme.
