About this event
In the week before the end of Buddhist Lent, Sakon Nakhon's villages build prasat phueng, castles modelled in beeswax with scenes from Buddhist cosmology, and parade them through the town to Wat Phra That Choeng Chum in one of Isan's great festival processions. The same week brings traditional longboat racing for a royal trophy on Nong Han lake. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's October calendar listed the 2026 festival from 20 to 26 October 2026. The 2027 dates follow the festival's fixed pattern, the week ending at Ok Phansa, which falls on Friday 15 October 2027. The province publishes its programme close to the season, so this record is marked expected.
