About this event

At Makha Bucha, Yasothon's Wat Mahathat hosts a festival found nowhere else: villagers pop rice like popcorn and string the white grains into enormous malai khao tok garlands, some metres long, which are paraded through the town and offered at the temple with traditional performance and a fair. Makha Bucha falls on Sunday 21 February 2027. The 2027 festival programme is published by the temple and province close to the season; the window shown covers the Makha Bucha weekend on the festival's established pattern, so this record is marked expected.
